Fast-paced and action-packed, Black Water: The China Connection is a blistering ride from the first page to the last. Filled with suspense, intrigue, and a healthy dose of patriotic fervor, Robert J. Saniscalchi's novel feels like a paean to the American people who put their lives on the line to protect the country's interests. The cast of characters is quite large, but Saniscalchi gives them distinct traits and personalities in a short amount of page time that distinguish them from one another. I particularly liked the relationship dynamics between Jason and his team members. The narrative is smooth, with a tight plot devoid of fat or fluff. This is a book to be savored by military fiction aficionados.
